The so-called Presidential Administration reported that the so-called South Ossetian president Anatoly Bibilov pardoned Zaza Gakheladze. He was a Georgian national who had been illegally detained and incarcerated by the occupation forces.
The relevant “decree”, of the so-called President, entered into force today.
The Russian military detained Zaza Gakheladze, an Georgian citizen, who lived in the village Kvemo Chala near the occupation line on July 11, 2020. This was near Skhvilo Fortress, in Kaspi Municipality. During the arrest of the Georgian, he was shot in the legs.
On February 5, the so called court sentenced Zaza Gakheladze to a total of 12 years and six months in prison.
In June, Gakheladze’s family members held an event in the village Kvemo Chala. The family members had planned to block the road and hold a protest rally.
Zaza Gakheladze’s father said that he would cross the “border” to get to the prison where his child was being held.
Later, the family cancelled the planned protests after the Georgian Patriarch Ilia II appealed to Russian Patriarchate for involvement in the release Gakheladze.
