Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze said that the Chinese company winning the tender guarantees that the Anaklia Project will be implemented to the highest standard. Kobakhidze informed journalists that statements about the Chinese company’s victory are speculative.
“We’ve heard a lot about the Chinese company. Currently, it is the largest Chinese state owned company with the most experience in implementing this type of project. The application for the development of this particular project was very well written. The Chinese company’s winning of the tender guarantees the highest quality of implementation for the Anaklia Project.
As for the political opposition, who were involved with the Anaklia processes, let us remind that the state repeatedly denied them the chance to attract an investment, but over the years they have never been successful in attracting an investor. They are responsible for this, even though they try to shift the responsibility to someone else. It is in our interest to develop this project. This is our responsibility. It is important to implement this project with a Chinese company because Chinese cargoes play a vital role in the efficient operation of the port. The speculations are therefore out of place. However, we can see that the person who started the speculations received grant funding from questionable foreign sources. This is what dictates anti-Chinese campaigns by politicians and NGOs,” said Kobakhidze.
Information: A Chinese consortium — China Communications Construction Company Ltd., together with China Harbor Investment – was selected as the private investor for construction of the new Anaklia deep-water port.
