In the early morning hours of October 10, Russian forces launched a massive air strike on Zaporizhzhia, using guided aerial weapons to target residential areas. This attack resulted in civilian injuries and damage to property.
Russia continues to launch deliberate daily attacks against residential areas, in an attempt to terrorize civilians. Every night, the Russian forces launch dozens “kamikazes” or long-range drones, called Shahed, which are capable of launching multiple missiles and bombing cities near the frontlines. Zaporizhzhia City is located approximately 30 kilometers away from the frontlines. The city was previously targeted by missile attacks, but now faces gliding bombs.
Around 6 a.m., the Air Force issued a warning of guided bomb launches against Zaporizhzhia. Ivan Fedorov was the head of Zaporizhzhia Oblast Military Administration at first. He reported two injured people and medical assistance.
The State Emergency Service of Ukraine updated the casualty counts later, stating that a child was among the four injured. The DSNS reported five detached houses that were partially destroyed. Five more homes, a shed, and an outbuilding, were also damaged by the blast and debris.
Five residents were evacuated from their damaged homes by emergency services. At the scene, police, explosives technicians and volunteers from the Ukrainian Red Cross Society Rapid Response Unit worked alongside other city services.
Fedorov gave additional details and mentioned that several locations were affected. In the first location, a neighborhood of single-family homes, several houses were destroyed and ten others were damaged. The second location reported a similar situation. Fedorov stressed that all residents survived.
