Small and medium-sized Norwegian defence companies will receive substantial funding for the development of innovative technologies to be used in Ukraine.
The Norwegian government will spend up to 967 millions kroners (approximately 87.5 million dollars) to improve its defense industry, with a focus on Ukraine’s needs.
According to the Norwegian Ministry of Defense the money will be used to finance four new projects that will increase production capacity. These include rocket engines and explosives components.
These components are vital for the production of air defense missiles and artillery shells that Ukraine urgently requires to defend itself from Russian aggression.
Bjorn Arild Gra, the Norwegian Defense Minister, explained that this initiative is part a comprehensive plan aimed at enhancing Norway’s defence industrial capacity.
According to the Norwegian Ministry of Defense, funding will be directed at several key areas.
Support small and medium-sized Norwegian firms developing technologies relevant to Ukrainian military forces.
Most air defense systems in Germany and the United States are built using a new rocket engine line at the Nammo factory in Raufoss.
* Norwegian production of hexamine is expanding. Hexamine is a key component in modern explosives.
* A feasibility report for a new explosives plant.
Gram said that Norway would also increase its support for innovation among Norwegian defense companies developing equipment to be used in Ukraine.
