Roshchyna was a journalist with RFE/RL who went missing in August of 2023, while traveling into occupied territories. She was scheduled for a prisoner swap.
Ukrainian authorities reported that Viktoria Roshchyna died in Russian captivity on 10 October 2024. She had been missing from August 2023.
Reporters Without Borders (RSF) reports that more than 100 Ukrainian journalists and foreign journalists were directly affected by the full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine which began in February 2022.
Petro Yatsenko confirmed the news after an internal investigation.
