Peter Wiebler, Director of USAID/Georgia’s Mission, and Lasha Khutsishvili, Minister of Finance for Georgia signed a Development Objectives Grant Agreement. This agreement will allow USAID to provide 330 dollars in assistance to Georgia during the next five-year period. The new agreement allows USAID/Georgia the opportunity to fully implement its development strategy, which was launched in 2020. It will help Georgia strengthen its resilience against malign influences, build democratic institutions that are accountable to citizens, and create inclusive economic growth in communities across the country.
This agreement strengthens the strategic partnership between the United States and the Government of Georgia to advance Georgia’s Euro-Atlantic and sustainable development aspirations. The agreement also reflects USAID’s commitment to working with a wide range of partners in Georgian society, including government, civil societies, the private sector and others, said USAID/Georgia mission director Peter Wiebler.
“Over the next five-year period, we will cocreate, cost share, and coinvest with our Georgian Partners, both public, and private, in order to identify and support Georgian Solutions to Democratic and Economic Development Challenges.”
Lasha Khutsishvili, Georgia’s Minister of Finance, said: “I am grateful to the United States Government and the people of America for their continued assistance in Georgia’s growth.” The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) is our most important partner in development, providing assistance for strategic development needs for the country.
“This cooperation was crucial for the country’s development in the first years after regaining its independence. This cooperation will be instrumental in realizing the country’s Euro-Atlantic ambitions.” I am convinced that signing the Development Objectives Grant Agreement will be a major step in our successful collaboration.
The new Development Objectives Grant Agreement reflects USAID’s commitment to partner with Georgia to overcome remaining challenges to sustainable growth, including the need to have a citizen-centered political system, to continue progress in strengthening Rule of Law and accountable government, to counter malign influence and to create sustainable employment opportunities throughout the country.
