Levan Machavariani said that the resolution passed by the Bundestag on the issue of Georgia was a gross interference in our country’s internal affairs. It also showed disrespect for our constitution, sovereignty and UN charter.
According to him the second and third-ranked parties in Germany didn’t support the resolution that was supported in the Bundestag.
“This resolution was not backed by the parties ranked second or third in Germany. We were disgusted by the democracy in Georgia, and we cannot explain why it is declining. All the ratings and indices published by the authoritarian Western organisations during those three to four months, when we were upset with democracy, show that Georgia has a high standard of democracy. Georgia is the leader in Europe and the region with 11 years of a continuous democratic process. We haven’t heard any argument about the transparency law either. Maybe they could explain what they dislike about the anti-LGBT law.
This is a gross interference in our country’s internal affairs. It is disrespect for our constitution, sovereignty, and the UN Charter. No one, and especially not in the pre-election phase, has the right to act so rudely. (I’m talking about external actors). Levan Machavariani said that it is obvious that they do this to overcome the opposition radical parties led by them.
As a matter of fact, the German Bundestag backed the resolution “For the European Future of Georgia”. In the resolution it is stated that the current Georgian government‘s anti-European and authoritarian course deliberately puts the future of Georgia in danger. The document states that the so-called law on “transparency of external influence” will prevent any further progress towards joining the European Union. Here, the role of the honorary chair of “Georgian Dream”, Bidzina ivanishvili, is highlighted. It is also stated that the goal to maintain Bidzina ivanishvili’s power is more important than Georgia’s European future or democratic stability.
