Corona Updates: Slight Decline in Georgian Cases

The number of coronavirus cases has decreased slightly in Georgia over the past week. However, the capital Tbilisi, and the two largest regions in terms population, and -Zemo remain hotspots for the virus.
The daily test-positivity is now at .8%. It was 4.39% in the last 14 days.
The Interagency Coordination , based on a detailed epidemiological analysis, decided at the start of the week to ease two restrictions: reduce nightly curfews to 23:00 instead of 21:00 (instead of previous 21:01), and allow restaurants to host customers on the weekends in open spaces.
On Monday, Georgia reported 504 cases of coronavirus, 2038 recoveries and 27 deaths, with a total 11,665 tests performed. Tbilisi had the most cases of Covid-19 (263), followed by Imereti with 53 and Samegrelo/Zemo Svaneti with 50.
On Tuesday, the number of coronavirus cases increased significantly. The country recorded 1562 cases, 1490 recovery and 30 deaths. Tbilisi had the highest number of Covid-19 cases (893), followed by Imereti with 136 and Samegrelo/Zemo Svaneti with 123.
As a result, 29 209 tests were conducted on Wednesday. The showed 1160 coronavirus infections, 1302 recoveries and 20 deaths. Tbilisi reported 588 Covid-19 infections, followed by Imereti with 113 cases, and with 110.
On Thursday, the country reported 1104 coronavirus infections, 1603 recoveries and 21 deaths. In the last 24 hours, 29,032 tests have been conducted. Tbilisi had the highest number of Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hour, with 607 cases. The Samegrelo Zemo Svaneti Region followed with 109 and the Imereti Region with 103.
Currently, the total number confirmed cases in Georgia from February 2020 is 334 705, of which 315 254 people recovered and 4540 died. In Georgia, there are currently 14,911 active infections.
According to data collected for May 20, 101 415 people in Georgia had received the coronavirus vaccination.
Georgia launches second Sinopharm jabs
The National Center for Disease Control and Public Health reported Thursday that Georgian citizens can register for the second Sinopharm dose starting May 20.
Booking for the second dose of COVID vaccine is now available on the booking.moh.gov.ge web platform. You can also call 1522.
On Thursday, the citizens can also see the number of vaccinations that are free on the website Provax.ge.
Provax.ge is a website created by the Georgian to spread awareness about vaccinations. Provax.ge provides answers to vaccination questions for interested persons. On the website, you can also find videos on vaccination and statistics about the process.
Tamar Gabunia announced that the vaccination with “Sinovac”, which will begin in Georgia next Monday, will also be conducted by the Deputy of Health of Georgia.
Gabunia stated that the vaccination with Sinovac would begin next week, and will cover all age groups above 18.
The National Center for Disease Control will announce the exact date.
Irakli Garibashvili, Prime Minister of Georgia, spoke at a recent government meeting about successful negotiations on vaccines, including the importation of additional vaccinations this summer. These are expected to arrive in June and July.

Moreover, Sinopharm and Sinovac Pharmaceuticals are also in the process of negotiating additional doses. Moderna and Novavax are also involved in the procurement of new vaccinations.
