Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze said that Georgian president Salome Zurabishvili had “two Fridays” remaining in her position. Her impeachment has a symbolic meaning. He said that it was important to remove the “traitors” from the presidency.
Kobakhidze told journalists that the impeachment will take place the second day following the first session of newly convened Parliament. Zurabishvili will be removed from office at the end of November or early in December, depending on when the first parliament session is scheduled.
“The impeachment procedure will begin immediately after the first session, once ‘Georgian Dream‘ has secured more than 100 mandates within the Parliament of Georgia. Although President Zurabishvili‘s term ends in the month of December, her impeachment has a symbolic significance. She should leave the office, not just because her term is ending but also as a violation of the Constitution and a traitor,” Kobakhidze said.
