IDFI: 72% Of Those Who Received Georgian Citizenship in 2018-2022 Weren’t Russians

Information Freedom Development Institute (IDFI), a report from September , 2018, reported that in 2018-2022, 13,644 Georgian were granted citizenship. % were Russian citizens.
The organization stated that, in the same time period, based upon the decree of Georgia’ President, Georgian Citizenship was granted 13 575 people, of whom 5,111 were restored to Georgian Citizenship and 8,382 were granted Georgian Citizenship in an exceptional way.
72% (6 075 persons) of the 8,464 people who received Georgian nationality (except in cases of restoration) were Russian citizens. After Russia, the majority (428 people) were citizens of . 404 were citizens of Armenia. 330 were Americans.
After the invasion of Ukraine by Russia in 2022, 551 Russian citizens and 8 received Georgian citizenship on an exceptional basis.
The document states that “the State Services Agency does provide such public information which is important a complete assessment of the extent to which Russian citizens are now more eager to obtain Georgian Citizenship after the Russian invasion in Ukraine”.
IDFI states that the statistical data analysis on the granting Georgian citizenship in the last five years shows that Georgian citizenship was mostly granted to . The organization believes that the desire for Russian to acquire Georgian citizenship will increase, especially after the Russian invasion of Ukraine in 2022. ).
