Salome Zurabishvili said that the president of Georgia will present a so-called technical administration before the elections on October 26.
Zurabishvili explained in the briefing that the purpose of presenting a “technical” government before the elections was to let the public know who would be responsible for the government.
“However there are still some interpretations about one issue and I want to, because I’m accountable to the public, and this charter is a response to their request, that everything was clear. We have no reason to leave things unclear or open to speculation. Interpretations refer to the last sentence in this charter which states that we also promise the President of Georgia will nominate the government responsible for implementing this action plan.
I intend to present to the public the technical government of Georgia that I also presented on May 26. The public order is not to have politicians redistribute the mandates and create this government at this stage. In the next few months, I intend to present the technical government of Georgia. I also presented it to the public on May 26. The public order is not for politicians redistribute mandates and create a government at this stage, during this transitional phase. I must submit this to an independent technical government. I believe, since this is my submission, that it should be submitted sooner, before the election, so that the public will know who will be in charge of the government, and who will bring this government under the control, obviously, of the parliament. Under whose control will this country be led on the path of the charter. This is not an interpretation but my interpretation. You can read the speech of May 26 in great detail before I asked the parties to sign. It cannot be left unclear until the very end, in my opinion. There are many different interpretations today. I think it’s time for the parties involved to decide how faithful they are to the spirit and words of the charter.
It is important that we know who is behind the charter. I am therefore waiting for the parties’ confirmation that they are in agreement with everything. If not, those who don’t agree can withdraw their signature. In order to vote, the public must know which party they will be voting for. They also need to know which party fully supports this charter. Zurabishvili said: “I am confident that we will arrive slowly, clearly, and surpass all the steps which will lead Georgia to opening EU negotiations in June next year. I consider that my responsibility and that my responsibility will be removed.” .
