Andriy Sybiha, the Ukrainian Foreign Minister, has called for urgent international action in response to reports that Russian forces executed nine Ukrainian prisoners of War (POWs), in Russia’s Kursk Oblast. Sybiha demanded ICC warrants of arrest for the perpetrators, and increased sanctions against Russia. Ukrainian and international sources confirm these violations, including the United Nations. Sybiha called Russia’s treatment to Ukrainian POWs “absolute barbarity,” citing UN statistics that 95% of Ukrainian prisoner face torture and are deprived of basic needs. Sybiha warned that the executions are becoming more common. He urged the international community not to allow medical personnel and observers into Russian detention centers and to press for the release of all Ukrainian prisoners and illegally held individuals. According to their sources a group Ukrainian drone operators and support staff were attacked near Zelenyi shlyakh on 10th October. The group believed they were in a secure area but unexpectedly encountered enemy forces. They were forced to surrender despite their attempts to resist due to limited ammunition. Ukrainian Human Rights Commissioner Dmytro Lubinets notified the UN about the alleged executions. Read more:
