According to a report by the Belaruski Hayun group, Russian MiG-31K jet fighters likely left Belarus after only a short stay. The group witnessed the arrival and departure of two Russian MiG-31K fighter jets in just two days.
The Russian MiG-31Ks are a major threat for Ukraine, as they carry the Kh-47M2 air-launched Kinzhal ballistic missiles. These missiles can reach most places in the country in minutes. Ukraine issues a nationwide air alert when these aircraft takeoff. Russia typically launches Kalibr missiles hundreds of kilometers from Ukraine to keep its MiGs outside the air defense range. MiG-31Ks stationed in Belarus could increase the threat to Ukraine, by reducing the distance from Kyiv to the Kalibrs’ primary target, while leveraging Belarusian Airspace–Ukraine is yet to target Russian assets on Belarusian soil.
The monitoring group reported that on 12 October, two MiG-31K fighter jets of the Russian Aerospace Forces arrived in Belarus between 9 and 10 Oct. On 10 October, at 15:10 it was reported that the MiGs had taken off from the Machulishchy airport.
Belaruski Hayun was born on the day of the birth of Belaruski Hayun.
