‘s leading photography gallery, FotoAtelier, is set to capture the art during the upcoming Contemporary Art Fair Art Market . The event will take place between October 17-20, 2020. The leading art fair of Central and Eastern , , showcases diverse artistic expressions and is the perfect platform for FotoAtelier’s unique voices.
FotoAtelier, a gallery for independent photographers founded in 2020 in a historic building, has become a vital space. The gallery’s goal is to bridge the gap that exists between Georgian and foreign photography scenes by fostering a dialog between tradition and innovation. For this year’s fair FotoAtelier will feature five artists whose work explores the intersection of personal narratives, nature, and ephemeral life: (pictured), (pictured), KetoMa and Sofia Alazraki. Also on display are Sergei Parajanov’s set photos from his iconic film “Surami Fortress”.
“Still life Photographs of Parajanov On the Set”
The will feature an exceptional collection of still-life photographs taken behind the scenes of Sergei Parajanov’s masterpiece “Surami Fortress”, offering a rare insight into the visionary world of the filmmaker. These images are unattributed, but their significance cannot be denied. These images, which are drawn from a collection of private images, will be available for purchase for a limited period, giving collectors a chance to own a piece in cinematic history.
“The Ephemeral Signs of Life by Nino Alavidze”
Nino Alavidze’s introspective works are the result of a profoundly personal experience. Her haunting series of snow captures life and time in a metaphorical way. According to her, the snow figures that she photographed represent fragility as they are majestic and beautiful, but then disappear. Her poignant reflections on the irreversible nature of time and its passage resonate deeply, reminding viewers about life’s impermanence.
“Color Field: Intensity Of Nature by KetoMa
KetoMa’s vibrant landscapes transport the viewer to the diverse, awe-inspiring nature of Georgia. Her series explores tensions between artificial and natural elements using color to evoke mood and ambience. Her vivid use of tonal gradients–from soft reds to striking pinks–offers an ethereal view of nature.
“Morning Rituals by Sofia Alazraki and Dissociation Toolkits”
Sofia Alazraki’s work is an exploration of the symbolic world that objects inhabit in our daily lives. By reinterpreting everyday objects, she creates intimate scenes that challenge the perceptions we have of ourselves, our connection to others, and our desire. Her surrealist approach blurs the lines between the human and the non-human. It offers a window to the absurdity and the beauty that coexists in the quest for meaning.
Untitled Sheets by Giorgi Shengelia
Giorgi Shengelia explores the artistic process in “Untitled Sheets”. Trial, error, and repurposing all play a central role. His archive of discarded images embodies his creative journey and captures the tension between failures and potential. These abandoned but revived images invite the viewer to reconsider the value or unfinished or “unseen”, works, reminding the viewer that beauty is often found in the process of creating, not only the final product.
FotoAtelier brings to Art Market Budapest the compelling narratives of unique photographic work. Through their diverse practices, these five artists offer a rich tapestry – ranging from personal reflection, the passage of the time, to the immersive beauty and introspection of everyday items. Together, their works encourage viewers to go beyond the surface, and explore the deeper links between art, memory, and life.
