Reuters reports that European Union leaders will warn Georgia’s government that it threatens the country’s path to European Union. The text of the draft conclusion of the European Council Summit scheduled for October 17-18 is based on this text.
According to Reuters the draft conclusions prepared by the European Union for the summit to be held on October 17-18 in Brussels state that “the European Union confirms their readiness to support the Georgians on the European Path, but again expresses their serious concern over the actions taken the Georgian authorities.” The European Council states that similar actions endanger Georgia’s path to the European Union, and de facto stop its accession process.
The draft conclusions of the summit state that “the European Council expects Georgian authorities to ensure fair and free parliamentary elections.”
The agency reports that international partners closely monitor the elections on October 26.
