Natia Mezvrishvili said that the “dream” of today looks exactly like the “National Movement” television in 2012, when it banned the main opposition and denied them the opportunity to advertise and airtime.
She said that TV companies “Imedi”, “Rustavi 2,” and “GD” refused to run advertisements for the party. “GD” then put pressure on the public broadcaster to run advertisements through the National Regulatory Commission, and Kakha Bekauri, its head.
The party “Gakharia for Georgia”, today, treats “Dream”, with the same methods as “National Movement”, and denies us the chance to place free political ads or air time. This is the case when “Imedi”, Rustavi 2, and other party TVs broadcast propaganda and disinformation 24 hours a days, addressing leaders of the party, as well as the political party in general. And this is the case when “Imedi”, Rustavi 2, and other party televisions broadcast Mikheil Saakashvili‘s election campaign 24 hour a day. He is not allowed to campaign from the “Vivamed“, clinic or courtroom.
According to Article 51 in the “Georgian Election Code”, “Gakharia for Georgia”, has the right to free political advertising through national broadcasters. According to the same article all political parties with 4% support have the right, and as you know the party “Gakharia for Georgia”, has double-digit support, to place free political ads on national broadcasters. What does a dream accomplish? “Imedi” (the party television station) and “Rustavi” (2nd), the national broadcaster that recognized us as a “qualified entity” and expressed consent to place our advertisements and complied to the law, refused to place them. As for another national broadcaster which recognized us as a “qualified entity” and expressed consent to place their political advertisements and complied to the law, it was “dreamed” or “wished” by the National Regulatory Commission. He exerts direct pressure through his head Kakha Beka
These TV companies, in particular, are not allowed to place ads, and those who do so face punitive measures. The “dream” of today looks exactly like it did in 2012, when the “National Movement” had its TV stations and banned the main opposition, and denied them airtime and the chance to place advertisements.
“GD” is attempting to remove “Gakharia Georgia” today and is violating all journalistic standards. They release disinformation, propaganda and make accusations without asking a single party representative’s opinion and do not include the comments of the party in the story. Mdinaradze said that the “Gakharia Georgia party” is not allowed to place free political ads according to law. Mdinaradze was not a good lawyer, nor did he know the law well under the conditions set by the “Dream”, or the “National Movement”, but I still recommend that he read Article 51 and dissolve the “Election Code”. Let’s avoid another embarrassing and ridiculous situation,” said Natia Mezvrishvili.
