Ekaterine Tikaradze, Minister of Health in Georgia, stated that it is important to vaccinate those over 60 years old because statistics from both Georgia and other nations show that this age group has a high rate of hospitalizations, resuscitations, and mortality.
Tikaradze pointed out that other countries have vaccinated more than 90 percent of their citizens over 60 years of age. She believes Georgia should continue on its original course, which means that the population over 60 should be vaccinated to the maximum extent possible.
“The statistics are heavy but we have observed over the last seven days that the infection rate was below one. Today it is 0.91. This is encouraging but it is vital that this benchmark be maintained and further reduced so that the hospital sector is able to cope. The vaccination reduces mortality and it’s important that citizens above 60 years old are vaccinated to the maximum extent possible. This is my personal maximum of at least 90%.
The Minister stated that up to 40% of citizens in the country are vaccinated.
