The investigation into arson attacks orchestrated by Russia leads to Russian terrorist threats against Ukraine

After RFE/RL’s revealed that Russian intelligence recruited Ukrainians to commit arson attacks against military vehicles, hundreds of Ukrainian institutions were evacuated.
According to RFE/RL’s Ukrainian Service, hundreds of Ukrainian organizations including schools, businesses and were evacuated after receiving threatening emails claiming terrorist attacks.
The threats were reportedly in response to an investigation by RFE/RL’s Ukrainian Service’s project Skhemy, which exposed how Russian intelligence services recruit Ukrainians – including minors – to set fires to vehicles belonging Ukrainian military and representatives from conscription centers. The threatening emails blamed RFE/RL for the alleged planned attacks.
The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry reported 60 of its overseas missions had received the email threatening them, and some suspended consular services in response. The National Police of Ukraine searched at various locations, including RFE/RL’s in Kyiv. However, they reported that no explosive devices were found after inspecting about 60% of the threatened sites on late 14 .
The email specifically named RFE/RL journalists Iryna Sysak, Valeria Ehoshyna and Yulia Khymeryk as being responsible for the alleged bombings. These journalists were members of the Skhemy investigation unit, which published the report about Russian efforts.
RFE/RL’s Stephen Capus spoke out about the situation.
