reports that the Ukrainian captured two Crimean collaborators within Russia’s Kursk Oblast. This was according a report issued by the Prosecutor’s Office in Oblast 15 October.
Russia began recruiting locals within the occupied Crimea long before its full-scale invasion in 2022. In the run- to the war, Russia began conscription and of locals in the occupied areas of Luhansk Oblast and . Later, similar actions were announced in other occupied territory. International law prohibits the forced service of residents of occupied territory in the military of occupying power, specifically Article 51.
The suspects are 51 and 45-year-old residents of Ukraine’s Autonomous Republic of Crimea. They sided with Russia after the annexation of Ukraine peninsula in 2014. They reportedly joined the 810th Separate Guards Naval Infantry Brigade after the full-scale conflict began.
The Sumy Regional Prosecutor’s Office was responsible for the supervision of the process. A notice of suspicion of high treason was served to the traitors. The local office of Ukraine’s Security Service is conducting the pre- investigation.
According to the prosecutor, the collaborators took part in battles in Kherson Oblast. The Russian command transferred their units to Kursk Oblast in Russia during the summer of 2024. They were then captured by the Armed Forces of Ukraine, while serving as riflemen.
Militarnyi reported recently that Ukraine did not exchange all Russian conscripts POWs during previous prisoner swaps. The journalists visited the facility when there were around fifty prisoners of war. The composition of the unit includes conscripts (mostly company leaders), junior command officers, mobilized and contracted soldiers, and fighters in the Chechen Akhmat Battalion.
