A dramatic change of direction is dangerous because it is unacceptable by the majority and will therefore be forced upon Georgians. Ian Kelly, the former US ambassador to Georgia, responded to the statement made by Irakli Kobakhidze about the “Georgian Dream”, the banning opposition parties.
“Kobakhidze sends a signal that such a choice is possible, but at the same time it changes direction in the opposite direction and is dangerous. It’s a one-party government that is oriented to the East rather than Western-style pluralitism. This is dangerous, because a drastic change in direction is not acceptable to the majority Georgians.
