The Moldovan border police reported that on October 16, missile fragments were discovered near the Moldovan village Lencauti located just 4 kilometers (2 miles) from the Ukrainian Border.
The border police confirmed that the scene is being investigated, but did not comment as to where the fragments came from.
It wasn’t the first time that missiles and drone debris were found on Moldovan soil.
In February 2024, after fragments of a Shahed type drone were found on Moldovan soil, President Maia Sandu stated, “Russia’s War on Ukraine hits close home in Moldova – again.” The discovery of Shahed debris in southern Moldova serves as a stark reminder of our grim reality.

In the fall of 2023, drone debris was found on Romanian soil after Russian drone strikes were conducted against Odesa Oblast. Bucharest responded by instituting additional security measures along the border, including building shelters and air defence systems.
