Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze revealed at the municipal government meeting that ‘Tbilisoba will be held’ in the capital from October 1-2.
The ‘Day of Tbilisi Festival’ will be held this year after a two-year break.
According to reports, there will also be live music, folk dances, a food market and guest chefs at the renovated Gudiashvili Square.
Kaladze responded by stating that the information being spread by opposition parties and media outlets about the costs of the holiday ‘Tbilisoba,’ is “a propaganda campaign of lies”.
“On October 1-2 we will have the opportunity to host events dedicated to Tbilisoba, which will be of a very large scale. Tbilisoba, as per tradition will be hosted by Rike & Leghvtakhevi. This year, the events will also take place on Orbeliani Square and Gudiashvili Square. We expect delegations from Tbilisi’s partner and friend cities. Kaladze announced that the day would be filled with various activities and concerts.
Tbilisoba, an annual October festival, celebrates the diversity of Tbilisi and its history. The first Tbilisoba was held on October 28th, 1979. It has become a tradition. The festival includes open-air concerts with traditional music and dance, as well as various cultural events. It is centered around Old Tbilisi, which is the historical part. Rtveli and the fair of the Harvest are not just about celebrating the past and present of the city, but also the people who represent the regions in Georgia. Tbilisoba is also the occasion for the city to award honorary citizenship to Tbilisi.
