After a phone conversation with his British counterpart, Commander-in Chief Oleksandr Sryskyi stated on Oct. 16, that the U.K. was working on its own proposal as part of Ukraine’s practical victory plan.
Syrskyi stated that he and Tony Radakin (chief of the U.K. Defense Staff) discussed the possibility of hitting Russian targets “in strategic and operational depth.”
The news was released hours before President Volodymyr Zelensky’s anticipated presentation of the victory plans during an address to Parliament. David Arakhamia told the Kyiv Independent that more sensitive details will only be revealed to parliamentary leaders.
Zelensky has also been invited to present his plans at a summit for EU leaders in this week. He had already revealed it to U.S. president Joe Biden, and other key partners including U.K. prime minister Keir Starmer.
“Supplying military equipment and weapons to the Ukrainian military, training personnel, and increasing the effectiveness of using high-tech means for destruction are the main pillars” of the military cooperation between the UK and Ukraine, Syrskyi said.
Top officials have already revealed some parts of the plan. These include those related to Western political and military support for Kyiv in its fight against Russia’s full scale invasion.
The key components of the plan are focused on military, diplomatic and economic areas as well as reconstruction after war. One of the specific steps is to invite Ukraine to join NATO. Ukraine’s incursion across the border into Russia’s Kursk Oblast is also a factor in creating pressure on Moscow.
