Karine Jean-Pierre is the White House Press Secretary. According to her, US President Joe Biden will not meet with Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelenskyy this Friday in Berlin but has already spoken to him by phone. These diplomatic shifts are occurring at a crucial time for Ukraine. Western support is waning while the frontline crisis deteriorates. Zelenskyy’s Victory Plan and upcoming meetings will be crucial for reinvigorating the international backing and securing funds against Russian aggression. Biden’s planned 12th October visit to Germany, where Zelenskyy would present Ukraine’s Victory Plan, has been delayed due to a storm that hit the US. The meeting was then canceled. Jean-Pierre announced a Ramstein-style leaders‘ meeting will take place next month. When asked about Zelensky’s plan, Jean Pierre deferred to Ukrainians and said, “We’ll allow them to comment on their plan.” We will continue to back Ukrainians in their fight against Russian aggression. The White House reaffirmed the US policy regarding Ukraine’s request for long-range weapons to be used to strike Russian territory. Biden will now visit Berlin on October 18, where he will meet German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and French President Emmanuel Macron. Zelenskyy has been invited by European Council President Charles Michel to the EU Leaders’ Summit in Brussels on October 17, where he will be expected to present his Victory Plan.
