Givi Mikanadze is a member of parliament’s majority. He accused the opposition, and their affiliated groups, of radical actions intended to disrupt “Georgian Dream“‘s pre-election campaign.
Mikanadze, at a briefing he held, highlighted several incidents where opposition groups were alleged to have damaged “Georgian Dream’s” posters and billboards. He criticised the refusal of some TV channels, such as “TV Pirveli“, and “Formula”, to air Georgian Dream commercials.
“The opposition and the subjects associated with them have taken radical actions which are manifested by direct interference in the campaign for the pre-election.” Mikanadze noted that the damage to banners belonging to the ‘Georgian Dream,’ as well as the non-launch of election ads are particularly concerning.
He cited specific incidents: “On the 16th of October, a member of ‘United National Movement‘, Mamuka Jevaishi, damaged 2 billboards for ‘Georgian Dream,’ in Sarfi Village. On October 15, opposition leaders Khatia dekanoidze, and Gigi ugulava, damaged billboards in Kutaisi.
Mikanadze stressed that the opposition’s alleged acts are part of an ongoing attempt to undermine the “Georgian Dream” campaign. He called on local and international monitoring organisations to take note of the violations and reflect them properly in their reports.
