“We all saw the will of Georgians who came out on the streets and called for more Europe,” French president Emmanuel Macron said during a press briefing in Brussels.
The French leader said that it was a historic moment, as the perspective for Georgia‘s membership had been recognized.
“I agree with everything that Madam President [Ursula von der Leyen] has said. I think that this is an historic day because the possibility of Georgia joining NATO has been acknowledged. The President noted that the Commission had clearly defined the conditions for Georgia’s candidacy. We have all seen her will, the very clear message she sent, and that of the people who came to the streets, calling for more Europe,” Macron said. He added that this will serve as the basis for the reforms that need to be implemented.
