Around 350 workers from the Borjomi Mineral water Bottling Factory No 1 and N2 went on strike to demand higher salaries and improved working conditions. The two factories will cease to operate.
The police are mobilized immediately.
The protesters claim their salaries were cut by 200-250 GEL in a year. They were also unable to take a rest due to a lack of staff, and only received a small amount as compensation for overtime work.
“There was a mediation of 21 days between the company, the employees and the Trade Union of Agriculture, Trade and Industry, but it ended without agreement. After that, the employees went on legal strike. They began fighting for decent conditions of work.
“Their main demands include salary increases, the right to take breaks and rest, and better working conditions.
The Youth Movement of Trade Union released a statement that stated, “The Trade Union of Agriculture, Trade and Industry is the organizer of the strike.”
