Politico reports that US President Joe Biden, who met with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz on 18 October in Berlin, pledged to continue supporting Ukraine amid concerns about Trump’s potential return in the US elections less than three weeks from now.
The meeting takes place at a crucial time for Ukraine. Russian forces are making gains in the east of the country, and there is uncertainty about future US support if Donald Trump wins the upcoming elections. Recent comments from Trump echoing similar views to those of Russian president Vladimir Putin have exacerbated European fears.
According to the White House readout, Biden & Scholz “coordinated support for Ukraine’s self-defense against Russian aggression” among “other issues.”
