Charles Michel, President of the (CE), has responded to the signing agreement between and opposition parties.
“Sakartvelos Gaumarjos! Congratulations to the political leaders for signing the agreement to end the current crisis. You put the interests of the people first and let triumph. “Thanks to President Salome Zurabishvili, and all parties,” he wrote on Twitter.
The ruling team, as well as a portion of the opposition parties, have signed the agreement that Michel presented this evening. The official signing ceremony was held at , . Michel himself attended virtually.
At this stage the document has been signed by opposition parties “Lelo,” “Citizens,” “Republicans,” ‘Strategy Builder,” ‘Girchi,” and ruling party, ‘Georgian Dream. The document will also be signed individually by UNM Member , and former of European Georgia Davit Bakerdze. Zurab Japaridze, founder of ‘Girchi – More Freedom,’ will also sign the document suggested by European mediators.
Salome Zurabishvili, the , announced earlier today that she would pardon Giorgi RURUA, an investor in Main Channel, a newspaper with a strong oppositional bent, under certain conditions.
“I’m ready to pardon Giorgi Rurua and make a scandalous choice for myself. However, this should be the final chord to end the crisis and pave way for the country to enter a normal regime of politics and to face challenges without other demands.
“My decision won’t be implemented until the parties sign and enter the final document, and when representatives of the EU or the US announce an agreement.”
“I will sign this pardon act within one week of this announcement,” said the President.
The opposition demanded that Giorgi Rurua be released as a condition for entering the parliament.
