According to Liga, WATTPoultry International named Ukrainian agribusiness giants MHP (MHP) and Avangardco as the largest poultry and eggs producers in Europe on 18 October 2024.
The ongoing Russian invasion has caused severe disruptions in the agribusiness sector of Ukraine, affecting agriculture, production and exports. Ukraine is a major global supplier of grain and meat despite 30% of its arable land being in conflict zones.
MHP was ranked as Europe’s leading poultry producer with an annual production of 704 millions birds. This surpassed the UK’s 2 Sisters Food Group (525million) and France‘s LDC (477,3million). MHP employs over 32,000 people, including 4,000 outside Ukraine.
Avangardco (another Ukrainian leader) topped Europe’s production of eggs with 13.3 millions laying hens per year, beating out competitors like Poland‘s Wozniak Farms (11.1 million) and Denmark‘s DAVA Foods Holdings (7.4million).
Ovostar Union (also from Ukraine) secured sixth place in the egg production rankings with 6.4 millions hens.
According to WATTPoultry International, MHP was ranked eighth among the world’s largest poultry producers. It ranked behind JBS (Brazil with 4.44 billion birds), and Tyson Foods (2.08 billion). Avangardco ranked 15th among global egg producers, competing against leading companies such as Cal-Maine Foods, (US, 44.5 millions hens), and Proteina Animal, (Mexico 40 million hens).
