Irakli Gharibashvili is the Chairman of Georgian Dream. He called on the citizens of Georgia to reject war and foreign interference in Georgian political affairs, as well as what he called the legalization “unbridled LGBT propagandist” in schools and Kindergartens. He made these comments during a regional election campaign in Kutaisi ahead of the upcoming elections on October 26.
Gharibashvili focused his speech on the need to “defend” Georgia against both external and internal threats. He described the upcoming elections as a crucial moment for the future Georgia, declaring truth, peace and goodness will triumph on October 26,
Gharibashvili addressed the crowd and recalled the life that existed before October 1, 2012. It was a time of terror, fear, and oppression. He stressed the importance of the 2012 elections, which saw Georgian Dream triumph over what he called Saakashvili’s “bloody régime.”
“We all remember… fear, terror and oppression reigned under Saakashvili. Gharibashvili stated that people were deprived of the freedom they were given by God. “Innocents were unjustly detained and tortured in hellish jails,” he said. He also criticized Saakashvili’s government for the 2008 Russian war, which resulted with the occupation of Georgian territory and significant losses for Georgia.
Gharibashvili praised Georgian Dream’s 12-year rule as a period marked by peace, stability and progress. He cited economic development, reductions of poverty and unemployment and Georgia’s status as a candidate for EU membership, among other achievements, as the key achievements of his party.
“The historic win of October 1, 2012 brought 12 years of peace, stability and prosperity to our nation… We saved the land from war and maintained peace,” he said, praising former Prime Minister BidzinaIvanishvili for her role in these achievements.
Gharibashvili warned the upcoming elections would pit the Georgian Dream and other political forces against those who want to drag Georgia into war and chaos. He named Saakashvili as well as Mamuka Khzaradze and Giorgi Gakharia, who he called agents of destruction, as those working to bring back the National Movement to power.
“Today the battle continues…On October 26 we must reject the stateless agent directed by external forces who want to engulf their country in flames. He warned that they wanted to impose sanctions, send youths to war, and destroy Georgia.
Gharibashvili also criticized foreign politicians for interfering with Georgian politics and attempting to impose their values in the country. He targeted efforts to legalize “unbridled LGBT propagandists” in schools and kindergartens. He framed this as part of an underlying foreign agenda.
Gharibashvili said: “We must reject the attempt at legalizing unbridled LGBT’ propaganda.”
In his final remarks Gharibashvili warned voters that voting for any party connected to Saakashvili or his regime would lead to a return of war, chaos and the destruction Georgia’s economy.
“On October 26, truth, goodness, peace, and Georgia will all win!” He concluded by rallying the crowd in anticipation of the upcoming elections.
