Local officials reported that despite the widespread impact of the storm, there were no casualties.
Early on 20 October, Russian forces struck energy infrastructure in Sumy Oblast (Ukraine), plunging more than 100 settlements into darkness. The regional power distribution company reported that 37,000 customers lost electricity in the Romny District. The morning temperatures in Ukraine reached 2degC.

By 8:50 am Kyiv time, emergency services had extinguished the fire at the damaged building.

This strike comes after a day of intense shelling, with 41 attacks in the area and 71 explosions on 19 October. Overnight, Ukrainian forces captured 11 Shahed drones in Sumy Oblast.
According to a poll by Levada Center, 70% of Russians would support Putin’s decision on ending hostilities in Ukraine if all occupied territories remained under Russian control.
