The Georgia in front of me is a free Georgia. No one came to Freedom Square because they were warned: “you will lose your job”. Not a single student was told: “you will not get a scholarship”. This was announced by the president Salome Zurabishvili during a speech on Freedom Square, under the title “Georgia Chooses the European Union”.
According to her, Georgians are attending today’s event who are entering Europe peacefully, in a dignified way and in Georgian style.
“I greet you with love and emotion. Today will be a memorable day in the history Georgia for our children and grand-children. Gabriel, my grandson, was born today. Everything is probably a sign of a new Georgia and a future that is on the way. The Georgia in front of me is a free Georgia. No one was forced to come here, and no one came after being told “You will lose your job if you don’t”. No student came because they were told “You won’t receive a scholarship if you don’t come here.”
Freedom is the most precious thing in life. Freedom and peace are precious. Today, here are the Georgians entering Europe with dignity and Georgian in peace. Today, here’s the Georgia of yesterday and tomorrow. When I say yesterday, it is not the Georgia that was submerged in the Soviet clutches but the Georgia that was freed by our ancestors, and had a proud history. “That Georgia and that Georgia are one, and both will enter Europe with each other,” said the president.
