While is seeking for his Victory Plan the Prime Minister Donald Tusk highlights the divisions among European leaders. A reassessment will be expected after US presidential elections.
Donald Tusk, the Polish Prime Minister, said that “no consensus” had been reached by EU leaders regarding how evaluate the Victory Plan presented in Brussels by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. Ukrinform reported that the plan would be reassessed after the US presidential election.
Zelenskyy, who had already revealed his plan to the general public, argued for it last week among EU leaders.
The plan outlines five major points: securing a NATO invitation, bolstering Ukraine’s capabilities; implementing a deterrence strategy against Russian aggression; enhancing Ukraine’s economic and strategic prospects; and applying Ukraine’s wartime experiences to European defense. Certain aspects of the plan are confidential and have only been shared with a few Western allies.
Tusk said that it was not surprising that EU leaders have differing views about the plan, especially regarding Ukraine’s NATO Membership, which is the primary point of the proposal.
He reminded us that the first time the issue of Ukraine joining NATO was raised was during Lech Kaczynski’s presidency, when Poland supported the “opening of the prospect of membership for Ukraine.”
Tusk said, “Nothing has happened: we remain in solidarity with Ukraine.”
He said that it was difficult to judge the feasibility of Zelenskyy’s plan at this time, since the outcome of the US Presidential election will have a significant impact.
Tusk stated that “for now, we’re awaiting the results from the US election, and no one is denying that.” He added that Zelenskyy’s strategies “will probably be reassessed following the US elections.”
Zelenskyy had earlier signed a deal on security cooperation between Ukraine and Poland.
