Giorgi Vashadze – a prominent leader in the “Unity – National Movement“, coalition – delivered a passionate address at Heroes’ Square, before the start “Georgia Chooses the European Union”, march in Tbilisi. He emphasized the dignity and determination the Georgian people.
Vashadze, in his address to the crowd, stressed the importance of unity and urged citizens to see themselves a part of a greater movement. He declared that the upcoming elections were a referendum on Georgia’s future. The choice was between European integration and isolation.
“The most important thing is to see each other and believe that we are more than we think. We will win because this is a referendum.
Vashadze described the election as a pivotal moment in the direction of Georgia, saying that a vote against the European Union would be a vote against the ruling party, represented by the number 41. A vote for his coalition (represented by the number 5) would be a vote in favor of a rapid accession to the EU.
“For example, you draw 41 and that means no to the European Union. If you draw 5, you mean you support a quick accession to European Union.”
He also emphasized the resilience of the Georgians, saying that they would not apologize, submit or isolate themselves from others. He urged the crowd to rally in support of change at the upcoming elections by referencing the country‘s journey towards independence from the Soviet Union.
“The Georgians will never apologize, kowtow, or isolate themselves. Is this a nation of dignity? “We have gained this dignity since gaining independence from the Soviet Union.”
