Ukrinform reported that US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin, during a surprise trip to Kyiv in , announced a new $400-million military assistance package for Ukraine.
Austin said that a $400 million presidential aid package was allocated to Ukraine for ammunition, military gear, and weapons.
This allocation follows on from a $425-million aid package announced 16 October. It included and air-to ground munitions. It also included armored vehicles and “critically-important ammunition.”
Lloyd Austin, Secretary of Defense for the United States, is making his fourth visit to Kyiv. “This visit shows that the United States and the international community continue to stand by Ukraine,” he said on X.
The visit comes at an important time, as questions loom about the future of US assistance for Ukraine in advance of the upcoming US Presidential election.
Austin met with Rustem Umerov, the Defense Minister and President during his visit to Kyiv.
