Eight opposition MPs summon Vakhtang Gommelauri, Minister of Internal Affairs to the parliament for an interpellation format to answer questions from the lawmakers regarding the dispersal by riot police of the March 8-9 protests against the “Russian Law“.
At a press briefing, MP Khatia dekanoidze stated that the opposition had questions for the Minister regarding the use of force at the protest rallies on March 7 and 8, including the use of water cannons, tear gas, and the abridging of the right to freedom expression.
“Citizens suffered injuries as a result from the use of excessive force on March 8 and 9. Zurab Japaridze was among those who were physically injured. The use of special equipment, which was not logical and therefore unproportional, was made. One person lost their sight. We have no information on the punishment of any policeman and we haven’t seen any statement from any agency. We will therefore, in order to get answers to all our questions, and in accordance with the Rules of Procedure, summon the Minister of Internal Affairs via the interpellation process. He should come to answer specific questions”, said Khatia dekanoidze.
The following MPs signed the interpellation question to the Minister: Khatia dekanoidze; Roman Gotsiridze; Teona akubardia; Ana Natsvlishvili; Rostom Chkheidze; Nato Chkheidze. Khatuna samnidze and Tamar Kordzaia.
