**Ukrainians Shift in Favor of Ending War**
More Ukrainians want to end the war with Russia as soon as possible. According to a recent Gallup poll, 52% of Ukrainians now believe that their country should negotiate an end to the war “as soon as possible.” This shift is significant, especially considering that only about four in ten (38%) respondents think Ukraine should keep fighting until it wins.
**Progressive Change**
The change in sentiment is a departure from previous years. In 2022, after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, a record high of 73% of respondents believed Ukraine should continue fighting until it wins. This number dropped to 63% in 2023 and then fell further to 38% this year. The shift represents a 25 percentage point decrease between 2023 and 2024.
**Territorial Concessions**
Among those who would be open to negotiating peace, 52% are willing to make territorial concessions as part of a deal with Russia. However, 38% are against making such concessions. It’s essential to note that the specifics of potential territorial concessions were not outlined in the survey.
**International Support**
The poll also showed that Ukrainians trust European Union countries more than the United States or the United Kingdom to play a significant role in a potential negotiated peace. A staggering 70% of respondents believe EU countries should have a significant say, while only 49% think the US under a Trump administration should.
**Gallup Poll Details**
The Gallup poll involved approximately 1,000 Ukrainian adults from all regions of the country and has a margin of error of 3 percentage points. The survey was conducted ahead of the anticipated harsh winter months amid Russian energy attacks.
