**Russian General Killed in Moscow Explosion**
A top Russian general was killed in a blast at his home in Moscow. Lieutenant General Igor Kirillov, who led the country’s radiation and chemical defense troops, died on December 17.
Kirillov was accused by Ukraine of using banned chemicals against its military. On December 16, Ukraine’s Security Service (SBU) sentenced him to punishment for this action.
**Reports of Explosion**
According to Russian media, Kirillov and another soldier were killed in an explosion at a residential building in Moscow early on December 17. The blast was reportedly caused by a device planted on a scooter near the entrance to the building.
The Investigative Committee of Russia has opened a case into the incident.
**Previous Accusations**
Ukraine’s SBU had previously accused Kirillov of ordering the use of chemical weapons against Ukrainian forces since the start of the full-scale war. The agency claimed that over 4,800 cases of enemy use of chemical munitions have been recorded.
The UK imposed sanctions on Kirillov and his unit for using chemical weapons in Ukraine back in October.
**Other Russian Officials Targeted**
Ukraine has targeted other high-ranking Russian officials involved in the invasion. In December, a Russian expert who helped modernize missiles used against Ukraine was shot dead near Moscow. A colonel who trained specialists in attack drones was also killed earlier this year.
