**Academic Community Protests Against Jadar Project**
Members of Serbia’s academic community held a protest outside the European Union Delegation in Belgrade on Tuesday. They delivered a petition to the European Commission, opposing the inclusion of Rio Tinto’s Jadar project as an EU strategic project.
**Thousands Sign Petition**
The petition was signed by almost 3,000 members of the academic community, including university professors and students. The protesters marched from the University of Belgrade Rector’s Office to the EU Delegation in New Belgrade.
**Concerns About Jadar Project**
Academic Slobodan Vukosavic spoke at the protest, saying that the European Commission’s proposal to approve the Jadar project should be rejected. He read out a letter from the academic community to the European Commission, listing their concerns about the project.
**Letter to European Commission**
The letter stated that the Jadar project would harm the environment and affect public health. It also accused Rio Tinto of violating Serbian law and engaging in corrupt practices.
**Demanding Rejection**
The protesters demanded that the European Commission reject the proposal to include the Jadar project as an EU strategic project. They argued that this would undermine the credibility of the European Union and damage public trust in European institutions.
