**Minister to Have Power to Hire Police Without Competition**
The government is planning changes to the law that will allow the Minister of Internal Affairs to hire people for the police force without a competition. This means that not everyone who wants to join the police will have to go through a special test.
Currently, the law says that someone must pass a special competition to work in the police. But under the new plan, the minister can decide if this is necessary or not. The rules for joining the police without a competition would be set by the minister himself.
**Changes Planned for 2025**
The changes are planned to come into effect on January 1, 2025. At that time, military service will only exist in the Ministry of Defense.
**Reason for Changes**
According to the government, these changes are necessary because paramilitary units have different roles than the rest of the police force. The government wants to make sure that the rules for joining the police reflect this.
**Project Initiated by “Georgian Dream” Representatives**
The project was initiated by representatives of the party “Georgian Dream”. These individuals include Rati Ionatamishvili, Aleksandre Tabatadze, Tengiz Sharmanashvili, Nino Tsilosani, Aluda Ghudushauri, Irakli Shatakishvili, and Guram Macharashvili.
