Journalist Nika Katsia’s lawyer, Nina Lominadze, says an expert examination has been ordered for the narcotics he is accused of possessing.
The investigation is being carried out under Article 260 of the Criminal Code. This article refers to the illegal purchase and storage of narcotics. But until the expert’s conclusion, it’s unclear what part of the article will be used.
Nika Katsia denies owning any narcotics. His lawyer says he was not given a personal search report and didn’t know why he was being held until she told him about the accusations against him.
The investigation began after Nika Katsia was arrested on December 7. He was stopped by law enforcement officers at his home, taken to another area, and searched on the street. The police filmed a video of the search but did not find anything.
According to Nika Katsia’s lawyer, he was supposed to attend a rally that day. But instead, he was arrested. The police didn’t mention narcotics at the time, only that he was going to rallies.
The court will consider imposing a preventive measure today, after Nika Katsia is charged with possessing and storing narcotics.
