Ex-Corruption Fund Head Accused of Stealing Bitcoins
A prosecutor in Georgia says a former fund head, Giorgi Bachoshvili, stole 8,986 bitcoins from a rich businessman. The accused is currently on trial in Tbilisi.
Prosecutor Mikheil Sadradze claims the stolen bitcoins were worth up to $43 million in 2017. He says there’s evidence that proves the theft and money laundering.
The prosecutor said documents show Bachoshvili took the bitcoins for himself, while only giving a small amount of money to an investor. This was against the rules, Sadradze explained.
Bachoshvili denies doing anything wrong. If convicted, he could face 9-12 years in prison.
Sadradze believes his evidence is strong and will convince the court that Bachoshvili is guilty. Other witnesses with important information may also be questioned during the trial.
The state wants Bachoshvili to be found guilty of all charges.
