Irakli Bebua to be Released

Irakli Bebua, man in the disputed region of , will be released from detention March 30, 2025. This was announced by Robert Kiut, who heads the so-called of of Abkhazia.

Bebua has been in custody since September 30, 2020. He was sentenced to nine years burning the national flag. According to the , he should serve four years and six months. Since his detention period ends on March 30, 2025, he will be released.

There are no prisons in Abkhazia, only pretrial detention facilities. The “law” there says that one year of imprisonment is equal to two years.
