Irakli Bebua to be Released in 2025
Irakli Bebua, a man held in the disputed region of Abkhazia, will be released from detention on March 30, 2025. This was announced by Robert Kiut, who heads the so-called Ministry of Internal Affairs of Abkhazia.
Bebua has been in custody since September 30, 2020. He was sentenced to nine years for burning the national flag. According to the law, he should serve four years and six months. Since his detention period ends on March 30, 2025, he will be released.
There are no prisons in Abkhazia, only pretrial detention facilities. The “law” there says that one year of imprisonment is equal to two years.
