After President signed the law, many more soldiers returned. Now, about 1,000 are returning every day. The new law also says that unit commanders must welcome back returning soldiers and give them their old benefits within hours.

There’s been a big increase in soldiers leaving without permission. Official statistics show this has gone up three times since the beginning of the year compared to last year.
