Ukraine’s Air Force reported that Ukrainian air defenses destroyed 51 of 136 Shahed attack drones launched by Russia during an attack overnight on October 16, Ukraine.
The drones were launched from the Russian port city of PrimorskoAkhtarsk located on the coast of Sea of Azov and from Russia’s Kursk oblast and Orel.
The Ukrainian Air Force reported that its aircraft, missile and electronic warfare groups, and mobile firegroups intercepted drones in 14 oblasts throughout Ukraine.
According to the Kyiv Military Administration, all drones launched by Russia against Ukraine’s capital were intercepted by air defenses.
Viacheslav Néhoda, the Ternopil Oblast Governor, said that Russia attacked a industrial facility in western Ternopil Oblast. The attack caused a large fire, which was later extinguished. No injuries were reported.
According to the statement, 60 drones “were lost” in electronic warfare across a number regions, and 20 drones flew over Ukraine as of the date of publication. Two more drones flew toward Russia.
The Russian forces also launched a Kh 59 cruise missile at Chernihiv Oblast and attacked Donetsk Oblast using an S-300/400.
Drone attacks occur daily in Ukraine and affect different regions. In September, Russia launched more than 1,300 drones against Ukraine. They did this on a daily schedule for a month.
“Such a step would also show a new level desperation on the part of Russia, as it continues to suffer significant losses in its brutal war with Ukraine,” White House National Council spokeswoman Sean Savett stated.
This includes 1,450 casualties that Russian forces have suffered in the last day.
