Georgian Leaders Speak to European Official
The leader of the Council of Europe, Alain Berset, spoke by phone with Georgia‘s President and Prime Minister. This is according to a statement from the Council.
Berset is keeping an eye on what’s happening in Georgia. He talked with President Salome Zurabishvili and Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze. The situation is tense, with confrontations between different groups. Berset expressed concern about this.
He also told leaders to stop making things worse. He wants them to investigate reports of police using too much force against protesters. This is important because Georgia is a member of the Council of Europe and needs to follow its values, such as the right to free speech and peaceful assembly.
Berset said he will continue to support Georgia’s efforts to become more European and ensure its democracy stays strong. He also wants to talk with other groups, like civil society, to help solve the current crisis.
