**Australian PM Threatens Action Against Russia**
The Australian Prime Minister, Anthony Albanese, has promised to take strong action if reports of an Australian national being executed by Russian forces are true.
Oscar Jenkins, a 32-year-old teacher from Melbourne, was captured by Russian forces in December. Ukrainian sources have now told the media that his body has been found, suggesting he was killed by his captors.
Albanese’s government has summoned the Russian ambassador to demand information and stress compliance with international law. The Prime Minister called the reports “gravely concerning” and said his government is seeking urgent clarification.
**Russia Accused of War Crimes**
The Geneva Conventions require prisoners of war to be treated humanely, but Russia has been accused of violating these laws in Ukraine. Jenkins was a foreign volunteer who had gone to help Ukraine, but Russia sees him as a “mercenary” and denies him the protections afforded to prisoners of war.
If confirmed, Jenkins’ execution would be the first time an Australian national fighting for Ukraine has been killed by Russian forces since the invasion began.
**At Least Six Australians Killed**
At least six Australians are believed to have been killed while fighting for Ukraine. The Australian government and Ukrainian authorities continue to investigate Jenkins’ fate.
Albanese warned that if reports of Jenkins’ execution are true, his government will take strong action against Russia. However, he did not specify what this might entail.
