Giorgi Narimandze, Elguja Tsomaia Zurab and Shalva Tsotsoria, the defendants in Mikheil Sakaashvili’s entry into Georgia case, were each released on GEL 5000 bond.
Giorgi Keratishvili, the judge at Tbilisi City Court, made the decision. The detainees left the courtroom after being given a month to pay their bail.
The lawyers filed a motion at today’s hearing to release each detainee on GEL 5000 bond.
The defense explained that, since the defendants had pleaded to guilt and the evidence presented by prosecution was accepted, the most severe measure of detention for the detainees had to be replaced with bail.
The prosecution agreed to the motion.
Giorgi Narimanidze, Elguja tsomaia and Shalva are accused of covering up a serious criminal act. Elguja Tsomaia has also been charged with assisting an illegal border crossing.
