**Violence Erupts in Amsterdam**
A fragile calm has settled over the Dutch capital, Amsterdam, after a week of unrest. The trouble started when Israeli football fans were attacked while visiting the city for a Europa League match.
**Toxic Combination of Hate**
City officials said that the violence was caused by a “toxic combination” of antisemitism, hooliganism, and anger over the war in Gaza. This has left concerns about the damage done to relations between Amsterdam’s Jewish and Muslim communities.
**Tensions Spill into Politics**
The tensions have also spilled over into Dutch politics. A junior minister resigned because of language used by coalition colleagues. The Netherlands’ government is now on shaky ground.
**Local Leaders Speak Out**
Local Rabbi Lody van de Kamp believes that the city was like a tinderbox, waiting to erupt. He said that putting 2,000 Israeli football supporters on the streets would lead to trouble. Other community leaders are calling for calm and understanding.
**Dutch Government Responds**
The Dutch government has allocated €4.5m to combat antisemitism and support victims. Justice Minister David van Weel promised to deal severely with perpetrators and make sure Jewish people feel safe in their own country.
